Building the perfect crew with Starship Crew Connector v2.0

Starship Crew Connector

With the recent release of Starship Crew Connector v2.0, I thought it was time to take another look at the platform and what we set out to achieve. Back in 2014 when I first backed Star Citizen I was most attracted to the multi-crew dimensions of the game. Having spent many late nights in the preceding years experiencing deeply coordinated multi-player action on the battlefields of the Arma series, I knew it was something I needed to see done right in space.

I also knew the biggest challenges with building an effective, fun, and friendly team for long term, online gaming. Beyond everything it takes to be successful in-game, you’ve got issues like maturity, style of play, and experience as well as boring logistical details like time zones and availability.

As I began to think about how I might be able to filter through the thousands of other backers and watch friendships and a team emerge, it also occurred to me I was not alone. Even if only 50% of the current RSI accounts end up playing the game, which is quite a modest assumption, that’s over a half million players looking to create crews to run their own ships as well.

Enter Starship Crew Connector v2.0

Starship Crew Connector screenshotEven before I built INN, I knew I wanted to try and build a database tool for solving this problem. Starship Crew Connector is a toolkit for Captains and crew to connect via web and mobile and build the teams they envision.

The purpose of Starship Crew Connector is to provide the leaders of starships and organizations who are serious about building better, more cohesive, long-term teams with the tools and information they need to make smarter decisions, while simultaneously providing individuals seeking a meaningful role with a ship or an organization with an easy, intuitive system to find, sort, and filter through the crew opportunities they want to experience.

We’re also aware most individual players in the ‘Verse are also captains of their own ship as well, which is why any registered account can both search for, and create crew positions. Registration continues to be completely free.

Non-logged in users of Starship Crew Connector can view published crew positions. Registered users can create crew positions, apply for available crew positions, and screen applicants.

Starship Crew Connector is available online and via the mobile web, allowing users to research crew and opportunities when, and where, it’s most convenient. If you’ve got questions, comments, or suggestions on how we can make this platform better, please contact us.

Where Starship Crew Connector fits in with the Star Citizen game experience

Unlike the job matching system in-game, which will be the obvious choice for matching individuals with jobs immediately, Starship Crew Connector is about building successful, long-term teams well in advance of missions and operations. That’s why, in addition to the deep, indexed information describing roles and the individuals who might fill them, it also collects and indexes on important gaming details, such as player time zone, ideal playing times, play style, and group maturity level.

Starship Crew Connector isn’t meant to replace organizations or forums. It is laser focused on the needs of recruiters and those looking to find a meaningful, team-based, gameplay experience. It avoids overlapping content and features expected on an organization website, a Star Citizen forum, or Reddit.

    Nice tool!

Maybe a filter for regions / timezones could be added for a larger spread…

I respectfully disagree. We need to defend a fixed point in space 24/7 and that concept is inherently insane. So we have tons of Aussie M8’s and are seeking more Europeans so we have members on 24 hours a day. The NODE complex is for us all to share and whether any1 likes it or not nuclear torpedos are part of the game so we need a diversified group that gets along to defend our joint ownership assets.

Not all / the very least amount of Orgs are large enough to maintain any 24/7 presence.

Mine for example isn’t interested in doing so but having some fixed game times in the evening or weekends.
For that we’d prefer helping hands from our region, preferably even german-speaking.

For large Orgs I’d recommend an additional search setting like “globally”.
This way the tool would be perfect for everybody!
