Last night I took some time off from writing about CIG, Star Citizen, and the community around it, and just went out and participated in it. My buddy Jimi from Versecast and I met up and headed over to Bar Citizen, Santa Monica. Let me tell you, it felt really good to take a step back and truly connect with people around our shared passion for ships, simpits, zero-g dogfighting, and our collective anticipation regarding the impending drop of Star Marine, some would say the single biggest addition new of features since the PU went live.
There is something truly magical about being able to sit at a table with a couple of people you’ve never met before and just dive into a conversation we’re all passionate and knowledgeable on.
I’m consistently surprised at how easy it is to talk to total strangers and how quickly we all bond over our shared love for this game. It’s also amazing to see the passion and enthusiasm for SC from the CIG team every time they break away from there busy schedule to hang out with fans. Every time I go to one of these events I leave with an overwhelming sense of community. – Jimi //TGwS/Versecast
Bar Citizen Santa Monica was held at Ye Old King’s Head at the corner of 2nd and Santa Monica Blvd in beautiful downtown Santa Monica, just a couple miles from CIG (and INN) world headquarters and steps from the famous Santa Monica Pier. In addition to great food, and great beers, the venue provided enough space for sixteen attendees to gather around a couple tables and talk about the game we all love so much.
Close proximity to CIG offices is definitely an important consideration when planning Bar Citizen events and last night was no exception. Jared ‘Disco Lando’ Huckaby and Toast came out to spend the entire evening with the group. Like the rest of us, they were really there to talk about the game and get to know other members of the community better.
Of course, for the truly dedicated Star Citizen fan, proximity is no obstacle when it comes to spending time with fellow enthusiasts. Hamleet, a member of the community visiting family in Venice Beach, came out all the way from Knoxville, Tennessee.
Love this game, and the community is awesome as well. Really looking forward to the future of SC. I was actively searching for community events to attend while I’m out here in LA because there are less available in Tennesee. –Hamleet //Community Member
