Reverse the ‘Verse: Episode 80 – Summary

  • Feb 14th, Star Citizen and Squadron 42 will no longer be SOLD together at the price of $45. Existing packages are not affected. If you want to buy either of the two, they will cost $45 each, however if you decide to buy both, the other one will be $15, bringing the total to $60. E.G. Buy Star Citizen for $45 and Squadron 42 is $15, Vice versa.
  • New Subscriber page launched on Monday.
  • In the planning stage for the Next Great Star Marine.
  • Free Fly week has been extended till the 14th.
  • Referral program will be getting more rewards in the future.
  • Movable furniture in hangars will come when Persistence and Grabby hands are in.
  • There are new ships additional ships in concept that we do not know of yet.
  • The new Drake interceptor has been given the name: Drake “Monarch” and the writers are looking for community feedback.
  • No update on Carrack
  • Caterpillar is getting a lot of love at the moment, but no progress will be shown quite yet, however it wont be too long, only a couple weeks estimated before results.
  • Herald is in limbo due to the mechanics for it not being online and thus being in a low priority state.
  • Starfarer was said to release in Jan, but there’s a cutoff for when stuff can make it into patches and it didn’t make it into 2.1. They don’t have a date yet, but in the next couple patches it should appear.
  • No confirmed items for 2.2 yet.
  • A concept for a firefighting ship is a possibility in the distant future, they like the idea a lot, but don’t have time for it right now.
  • Jump drives may or may not come standard with starter ships, however every standalone ship can equip one. Companion ships like the Argo, Merlin, and Archimedes support a larger ship and is the reason why they do not have Jump drives.
  • Farewell to Patrick from UK Customer Service, He left on the best of terms and will continue to be a volunteer at RSI and wants to come back if he can after he has sorted out his personal affairs.

Reverse the ‘Verse: Episode 80 – Transcript

  • The Versebusters video was funny. Hopefully they put it up separately on their Youtube.
  • Still no audio.
  • It looks like they now know there’s no Audio and are trying to fix it.
  • They’re sitting around drumming on the desk with their fingers. Ben just made an ‘aw shucks’ shrug.
  • Looks like the stream’s gone offline for a minute so they can fix it.
  • On the walls, I see a Retaliator, some art of Chris, some SC and SQ42 decals, and some more things. But now the video is offline. Lets hope they have audio when they come back!
  • AHA we have audio now!
  • Welcome to RtV! It wouldn’t be RtV without technical difficulties!
  • First up, Week in Review! Ben! Ben hosted RtV last week, it went excellently. Cavalcade of happiness.
  • Disco wasn’t on last week cause he was in the Austin office, and went to PAX South.
  • It was a normal week for Ben. Did some interviews, monthly report is ready to go, should be out later today. Lots of ship concepting talk between Ben and the UK where Chris is. Shot AtV. Shot the Versebusters short before RtV…
  • RtV’s budget is 0$
  • Wing Commander Week. Sandi found lots of wing commander stuff, Ben got to explore old shooting schedules and such.
  • They took down Ben’s Wing commander artwork and put up some SC artwork instead. Art all over the studio now.
  • There’s a Phoenix in the lady’s room, a Merlin in the men’s room. Art everywhere.
  • Alexis’ week – Lots of meetings. In the planning stage for next great star marine, starting to plan gamescom, launched the new subscriber page in the store on Monday,
  • War Bonds have been distributed – the 100m $ backer gift. Those went out this morning, should be in hangars now.
  • Ben calls them Ortwin Bucks.
  • Free-Fly has been extended through the 14th. Get your pets and friends involved.
  • Next Great Star Marine we’ll learn more in the coming weeks / months. It’s not too soon, but it’ll be very like the Next Great Star Ship. Probably a little less fancy, less bandwidth.
  • Justin’s week – busy week. He did some editing.
  • Last weekend Disco was at PAX South. His first PAX. He liked it more than E3.
  • Met lots of fans, hung out with org members, Test and Clifford and people.
  • AtV this week had two good sections, on LoD’s and SC Live.
  • Alexis, Disco, and Ben will be going to Gamescom.
  • Hennessy is going as well. This week he did two awesome things. Hennessy and the Writers beat Vanduul Swarm without dying. And they filmed a very entertaining 10 for. Good info, sandwiched around a little bit of wackery between Sean Tracy and Steve Bender.
  • It may be a long one, but it should have a lot of good info.
  • Justin said something funny, Hennessy’s rolling around on the ground laughing, and Ben is taking a picture of it and tweeting.
  • CIG are in the process of looking for another community manager, they need a second Disco Lando. Lots of other job postings as well. Check them out.
  • They really like some Canadians for the jobs, but we’re in Canada, and they can’t hire us.
  • And now it’s Question Time!
  • What time is it? QUESTION TIME!
  • [Which ship most like Gremlin?] Aurora. It’s the little ship you have no reason to love but you will. It’s got character.
  • Disco wants a ship that has character.
  • [Why was the store and ship dealership prioritized?] Jeff Ross talked about NPC animations going into Arc Corp. It wasn’t prioritized, because Arc Corp got released months ago.
  • Not everyone can do all things. One person is doing something because that’s their job. Populating arc corp is an important aspect of making the universe.
  • Ben is pretty confused as to how people are angry that they’re focusing on animations for arc corp. Because… yeah. Why are people angry?
  • [How can choice matter when the only constant in game development is change?] Disco gets quoted a lot saying that development is iterative; things change. But that can exist at the same time as having mutual choices. There’s a lot of choices people can make. Melting pledges, CCU’ing, buy-back system, etc… choice and change don’t have to be mutually exclusive.
  • Picking a ship should have a weight to it. It’s the equivalent of buying a car. It was never really meant to be a ‘switch to this ship switch to this ship’, ships should have value. They’re looking for a compromise between having all ships, and having meaning to the ships.
  • And that’s what the quarterly buyback tokens mean.
  • For those buyback tokens; It’s not the ‘permanent’ last decision they’ll ever make. There may be extra tokens in the future. They understand some problems, and they’re looking into ways to figure something out, but they’re talking about things. Next time there’s an Idris sale, they might give out some extra tokens. Everything is iterative.
  • They know that lots of people have melted lots of their ships to try to buy the Idris or Javelin, they want to do something about that, but it’s in the process. They try not to make decisions day-of.
  • [Is the 890 Jump Shiny?] Pretty shiny. Lots of materials work lately has been shiny. It’ll probably be shiny. ‘Wait till you see the silver Reliants’. The Reliant is becoming one of Disco’s favourite ships.
  • Ben thinks the 890 jump looks like a fancy air freshener for a bathroom.
  • [Referral program?] There will be more rewards. The referral program, they want to add more rewards, but they want to make them good. They want to do some unique content for it.
  • Hennessy is showing off the 890 Jump on the wall now.
  • ‘From toilets to guns and gyms it has it all’ The 890 Jump has a gym.
  • [When can we move furniture around the hangar?] Persistence and Grabby Hands. They’re both coming, there’ll be more on them when they get close. If you want to know about Persistence, pay attention to the Austin section of news. For Grabby Hands, pay attention to UK and LA segments.
  • Ben is reminiscing from where the company came from originally. They’ve got performance evaluations and 401K’s and health insurance and the like. It’s a real company.
  • Sandi did Ben’s performance review this week.
  • In 11 days, Star Citizen and SQ42 split. On Valentines day, they’re breaking up.
  • There will be an FAQ about that posted tonight, with details about costs.
  • The split does not apply to any current package, only packages purchased AFTER Feb. 14.
  • It’s a perk for ‘early adopters’, people who backed in the first 3 years. For new people, they’ll have to choose between Star Citizen for 45$ or SQ42 for 45$, or a special… something.
  • It’s more ‘a-la-carte’. Choose one or the other, and then the other is a 15$ add-on.
  • if you buy SQ42, 15$ gets you SC. Both games for 60$.
  • And it’ll go up again down the line as they approach release, but for now, Feb. 14, it’s going up to 60$.
  • If you’re already a backer, you’ve got it. You’re locked in. Don’t worry about it.
  • Apparently there’s a ‘magic cheesecake truck’ in the area, so they’re closing down RtV.
  • Apparently, when they first started working here, Hennessy and a construction guy had an amazing phili cheesesteak food truck. They went a few times cause it was great, but then it disappeared.
  • Long phili cheesesteak truck story. Involves porn, somehow. Today, they’re on the west side, by the studio, so they’re going apparently. It’s an office thing.
  • [When?] When it’s ready.
  • [Design docs. mining, salvaging…] They’re coming. Ben was talking with Todd Pappy about that. They’re looking at some additional ship concepts to go with them. Expect more about Mining (it’ll likely be the next big one).
  • Ben has confirmed that there are additional new ship concepts, with cool options, that they can’t talk about.
  • [Herald?] It’s still in limbo. It’s kinda floating. It’s still on the schedule, just a little bit further back. There’s not too much gameplay for it right now, so it’s not a high high priority.
  • [More gameplay with Chris in the future?] yes. Next time there’s a livestream. Apparently the Press gets to see Chris play more than we do. He’s always showing it to journalists.
  • [Ben] As you know, working on the Drake Interceptor, the ship that people want the Cutlass to be. The name the Writers are pushing is the Drake Monarch.
  • If you have questions about the Cutlass rework, check out the Shipyard post from a few months ago.
  • Right now they’re focusing on getting all the base ships into the game so they can balance.
  • And they know they want to do another shipyard post. The next one should be the Freelancer.
  • No update on the Carrack yet. Gurmukh is slotted for the Carrack after he finishes the Caterpillar. Lots of love going into the pillar right now.
  • They want to let the Pillar get fleshed out a bit more before they show anything. It’s not changing, they just want to know that what they show is what they’ll use. It should be weeks rather than months though.
  • [Can you create a ship called the troll killer?] No. No they can’t. Best thing to do with trolls is forget they exist. Not dedicate a ship to them. Ben – ‘What do you mean, we already have the Cutlass!’
  • [Name a feature in the PU that’s finished?] No. Nothing’s finished. They’re still building the game.
  • They’re barely on 2.1 of the baby PU. Tony Zurovec’s pushing for it to be called the protoverse.
  • Alexis would buy a Gary Oldman airhorn.
  • They’re going to do an RtV with a live studio audience.
  • Hennessy is talking a lot, but I can barely make him out.
  • [Starfarer update?] Still coming. Chris said January during ah 10 ft C, but… everything that’s ready for the next patch will make it in. If it’s not ready on the cutoff date, it doesn’t make it in. The Starfarer isn’t ready today, still doing some work on, but it will be in an upcoming patch. They’re really thrilled with it, they just want it to be as awesome as possible. It’s practically a mini cap-ship because of its size. It’s a floating FPS level in space.
  • [It sounds like Gary Oldman’s ship is called the Gary from the Gillian Anderson interview, is that true?] No, but there should be a Gary Oldman game where he flies around in a ship called the Gary.
  • [Greycats in hangar?] They’ve been in hangar for a while, you just have to buy one.
  • [Is there a new PU mechanic ready for 2.2?] I think they’re talking about how important Physicalized EVA is right now, and how good it looks, how much more beautiful it looks. They’re excited to see that in.
  • [Can Ben and Justin answer questions through interpretive dance?] Yes. Ask the next question.
  • Hennessy turned off the camera so we can’t see… oh god. Justin is dancing around in circles while Alexis is saying ‘I hate this’
  • Also the Argo will almost certainly be on sale at some point. It’s an ultralight – no Quantum or jump drive. It will have variants though.
  • Big Benny’s Vending Machines will eventually available as hangar flair.
  • [Concern – Social Module Update?] You’ll want to watch yesterday’s AtV, where they talk about a LOT of stuff regarding the Social Module.
  • [Will there be a firefighting ship?] They’ve talked about it. It’s not on a schedule, cause they have to have more elaborate game design to go with it, but firefighting is one of those ships where it keeps getting mentioned.
  • [Jump drives on starter ships?] Starter ships don’t come with a jump drive, but they will almost all be able to have one. They’ll talk more about jump drives in the future. Every regular size ship can equip a jump drive. Just things like the Merlin, Archimedes, and Argo can’t have one.
  • The first jump during the build out of Crusader will be a huge event, but it won’t be the kind of ‘scraping by to buy a jump drive’ kinda thing. Also, anything that’s not a snub will have a Quantum drive.
  • [What’s Privateer?] Privateer was Chris’ first game like Star Citizen, back in 1993. Wing Commander was similar to SQ42, Privateer similar to Star Citizen.
  • [BMM] It’s on the list. It’s not in active build, but it’s on the schedule.
  • Not confirming anything for any patch. The closest they’ll get is that EVA is likely for 2.2, but they won’t know till the cutoff day.
  • They’ll let us know what’s in the patch when they know what’s in the patch. When it’s not certain, people get mad. And if they tell us, and it doesn’t make it, people get mad. So they’re just waiting till they’re sure what’s going to be in the next patch.
  • [How do you predict how to do something that’s never been done before in a way that’s never been done before?] It’s 9 man hours.
  • ‘The first 90% of game development is a lot easier than the last 90% of game development’
  • And that’s it for RtV! Tune in on Monday for a 10 for the Directors, with Sean Tracy and Steve Bender! It’ll be… unique. Bugsmashers on Wednesday. AtV will have some cool stuff too. Good interview, and some neat segments. And now, Versebusters rerun~
  • OH WAIT!
  • Congrats to the CS team in the UK, they’ve cleared the general CS queue. Sadly, lead mod Patrick is leaving. He wants everyone to know that he’s leaving on the best of terms. He’ll still be a volunteer moderator. But he’s got a very long commute to work, and it’s weighed on him, and personal issues need his attention. He has a standing invite to come back and rejoin the CS team when he’s good. And he will be at Gamescom to help out.
  • Thanks go out to Patrick for being awesome!
